Important changes to data

The NHSBSA have combined their data sources into a One Drug Database (ODD), which will be released in March (for the January 2020 prescribing data). https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/one-drug-database.

In this new database some codes for individual products have changed. One code may have been split into several different products and vice versa. Prescribing data in the old format will no longer be available after this date.

How will it affect the data?

We have had to re-baseline all of our indicators to ensure that relevant changes are included in our tag listings. If you have based incentive schemes and monitoring on previous targets you will need to revisit this locally.

Figures may not tie up to what was reported previously, particularly snapshots and low priority prescribing. This is out of our control and we are unable to change this.

Low priority prescribing dashboard update will be ‘phased’ when January data is released we will update 2 years historic data with the new ODD information, so that’s January 2018 – December 2019. The rest will be fully updated on February data release, that will be January 2016 – December 2017 data.

As mentioned above figures will undoubtedly change.
