The project was to move from four formularies across two CCGs and two hospital trusts to a single formulary with shared decision making across the ICS.
The outcome is a single formulary across the system, but the benefits are significant in terms of relationships across the system and a reduction in the duplication of work.
Work is now shared across the system and a single commissioning decision is made.
Clinicians have benefitted from a single system which is clear and with out variation.
Patients have benefitted with a reduction in 'post code' prescribing.
Pharmacies have benefitted as stock holding is lower as there is less variation across the area. This is particularly evident in the pharmacies geographically on the borders.
Future benefits will be a reduction in workload as we move to a single Scriptswitch profile, and other benefits from working at scale.
