Our project focuses on improving the quality and safety of medication dispensing processes within 8 GP dispensing practices across Coastal West Sussex CCG. By assessing and auditing specific focus areas within GP practice dispensaries, we aim to highlight the following areas to achieve an overall improvement in patient medication safety.
To date, all 8 Coastal West Sussex GP dispensing practices have received a quality and safety visit by Quality and Medicines Management Team representatives. Dispensary action plans were prepared for each GP dispensing practice (excluding the hybrid pharmacy) and are currently being followed up by the Medicines Management Team.
After re-visits to 3 GP dispensing practices, 49% of issues had been resolved since the initial visits. The most reduced area relating to patient safety was controlled drugs registers/record keeping, where 69% of issues have been resolved.
