I identified a need for support for residents living in sheltered housing around medicine use and from this identified further needs that were not currently being met. As a result I worked with colleagues in primary care and then across the health and social care sector to develop a 'health roadshow' event across 3 sheltered housing schemes.
Outcomes for both residents and professionals were 100% positive. The GP practice were able to offer medicine reviews, flu vaccination programme and other QoF measures and residents and wardens felt supported and learned from the sessions.
The events led to cost savings across medicine use, and better use of staff time i.e flu jabs done in 1 session rather than in 15-20 separate appointments.
The project is one that can be expanded across multiple sectors including care homes, schools, prisons and cultural sites in the future.
