We are aware that there is significant spend on stoma care and accessories within our CCG, and some of this was due to inappropriate requests from DACs to start patients on products that were not necessary, and we also wanted to ensure that patients had regular clinical reviews of their stoma.
Being able to offer patients appointments with stoma nurses they know and trust made it easier to actually have the patients agree to the appointment in the first instance, and when changes to their prescription were recommended the patients were more agreeable to these changes as they have the trust in a familiar nurse.
