Optimising medicines for COPD and asthma

We welcomed Finlay Royle from Lambeth CCG to further capture and share their award winning innovative work on their ‘Optimising Medicines for COPD and Asthma – An Integrated Approach’ project. Over-prescribing of high-dose inhaled corticosteroids is causing avoidable harm in asthma and COPD.

Diagnostic spirometry is often poorly performed and interpreted, and there is a lack of investment in high-value interventions such as pulmonary rehabilitation and treatments for tobacco addiction.

This webinar described how commissioning levers were utilised to: reduce inappropriate prescribing of inhaled corticosteroids; invest in high-value interventions (such as pulmonary rehabilitation) and; improve accuracy and consistency of diagnostic spirometry.
