Maintaining Competency as a Primary Care Pharmacist/Pharmacy Technician - 17th July 2024

The role of the pharmacy team within primary care is constantly expanding therefore it is essential that we continue to practice within our areas of competency and we are not pushed outside our boundaries without the necessary training and support.   During this session, we had two great presentations; the first from the CQC and the second from a general practice pharmacist PDA union representative.   Mary Collier and Aadam Hashmi presented on behalf of the CQC. Mary is a Medicines Manager and Aadam a Pharmacist Specialist in the Medicines Optimisation Team at CQC. They shared their experience of assessing general practice to demonstrate the importance of working within and maintaining your competency. Siddiqur Rahman, a general practice prescribing pharmacist based in Kent who has over 8 years' experience of working within primary care, and is currently the lead diabetes clinician within his practice, provided examples of how to maintain a portfolio of evidence and the importance behind this.
