B251: Asthma - Bulletin and briefing

This bulletin discusses the pharmacological management of chronic asthma and provides tools to support moving to a NICE-based asthma pathway.

The differences between the NICE and BTS/SIGN guidance are outlined.

A new asthma pathway costing tool has been developed so that you can cost your current asthma treatment pathway and compare costs with using alternatives.

Implementation tools include, pathway documents that can be adapted for local use, asthma inhalers spreadsheet, visual data pack, searches to support identifying people at higher risk (based on the National Review of Asthma Deaths (NRAD) report), high dose ICS audit and template patient review letters, and NHS branded inhaler technique videos and leaflets.

Inhaler technique assessments videos and leaflets

The inhaler technique videos are the first set of patient education videos which have been jointly produced by PrescQIPP and Health and Care Videos. Supporting resources include a technical guide on how to use / implement locally, embed codes and a range of accompanying template patient information leaflets in A4 and leaflet format.
